About September 2018

Our September 2018 cover features Alexandre Villeneuve, the 2017 Physique Canada Tier 1 Pro Men’s Bodybuilding. That win, last October, made Alexandre known as being the best men’s bodybuilder in Canada.

Right now, Alexandre is preparing to defend his title at the 2018 Physique Canada Canadian Championships. Can anyone beat him? That’s what we’ll see at the competition, to be held October 20, in Gatineau, QC, Canada.

2011 IDFA Montreal Classic

Steve Duperre winningThe province of Quebec has a long, rich bodybuilding history, so it’s an important place for any credible physique organization to have a strong foothold in. The IDFA, which has gained significant strength in Quebec over the years, had its largest and most successful event in that province yet – the 2011 Montreal Classic, held April 9 at the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall near downtown Montreal. Competitors from across the country stormed the stage in the novice and open categories, with three IDFA Pro Cards up for grabs.

The highlights of the novice competition included: Kari Janz of Barrie, Ontario, winning the fitness model short and overall titles; Pier-Luc Turgeon of Beauceville, Quebec, claiming the lightweight and overall titles in men’s bodybuilding; and Karine Pilon of Bois-des-Filions, Quebec, winning the tall and overall figure titles

Masters competitions are for competitions 40 years of age and older. But it was these winners who proved that age doesn’t necessarily matter in physique events. Quebec’s Nathalie Piche claimed the women’s crowns in the masters and open categories, earning one of the three pro cards that night. In men’s bodybuilding it was Ontario’s Steve Duperre who was won the masters and open men’s bodybuilding categories and also earned a pro card. The other pro-card winner that night went to someone who won a category where there is no masters class: Alberta’s Steph Marques of won the open fitness model category

The Montreal Classic was a success because of the size and quality of competition, but also because of one more thing: this show marked the debut of the IDFA’s new ultra-strict, WADA-style anti-doping program led by the IDFA’s Chief Doping Control Officer, Brian Robitaille, a former two-time Canadian bodybuilding champion who is one of the most respected men in the sport. The IDFA keeps growing and getting better.
